When Rachel Duboff, a private chef, took over running the Wallingford Community Kitchen about six months ago, it was in semi-active mode.
Duboff turned up the heat. These days about 30 people show up for the monthly dinner, which is always on a Friday night, though there is no set date. The next one is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, March 19, in room 140 of the Good Shepherd Center.
Cabbage and potatoes will be the theme of the night. Duboff will demonstrate making kimchee and sauerkraut.
Run on the model of community kitchens that became popular in the 1960s, the Wallingford Community Kitchen is a collaborative process but it's not a throwback. There's the requisite Facebook page.
Participants sign up to bring ingredients, and everyone preps and cooks together, each according to their ability.
