Celebratin' Abe with an early morning 5k

The faithful weekend morning runners and cyclists near Gas Works Park were given an eyeful this morning. People dressed in blue shirts donning our 16th President came out in full force to complete a 5k run/walk in support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

If you missed the occasion, Run with Abe, here's  an idea of what you missed: Abe-style Sharpie beards, top hats, the Statue of Liberty (you better believe she was runnin'! ), face paint, feathers,  and of course, cute, fuzzy pups dressed up in t-shirts and boas.

The run, while fun, was also taken seriously by a select few who were truly in it to win. Jesse Williams won for the fastest male by coming in at 17:09, and Megan Johnson won for fastest female by coming in at 19:12. Way to go! Other category winners were best team name to Team Abe-Atar, and best presidential representation going to Flora, aka little miss Statue of Liberty, Joanna for best Sharpie beard, and Merry for a total Abe-like get-up.

Some of the awesome prizes donated were things like Jansport backpacks, and gifts from locals like Pyramid Brewery, Glassybaby, Frosted Cupcakes (yum!), and Tully's Coffee.

After all the hardwork of running and looking patriotic was completed, the group headed over for burgers, sweet potato fries, and an after-run drink, like say, a man-mosa at Buckley's in Belltown.

This annual celebration raised money for LLS, and helped contribute to participants in Team in Training and their fundraising challenges. And for those who missed out on the event, don't worry, you'll have your chance to celebrate Abe and support LLS next year.
