Fremont development looks to be apple of neighborhood's eye | Development
Title (Max 100 Charaters)
The architects behind a proposed Fremont apartment development are looking to Washington's most well-known fruit for design inspiration.
Studio Meng Strazzara has modeled its preferred design for the project at 3606 Woodland Park Ave. N. on the apple. The building's blank, red walls represent the peel, while white sides with apartment windows are a bite out of the apple. The small apartment balconies are seeds. The roof continues the fruit resemblance with a rooftop garden as the leaf and the HVAC/elevator tower as the stem.
Early designs show the project as a four-story building with parking and two live-work units on the ground floor and at least 48 apartments above. The units are targeted for people earning 100 percent to 120 percent of the median income.
The project will go before the Northwest Design Review Board for an early design guidance meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 10 at Ballard High School, located at 1418 N.W. 65th St. The public is welcome to attend the meeting and comment on the design of the project.
