Another weekend, another drunken assault in Fremont

With an incident like this occurring seemingly every weekend, it’s a wonder Seattle Police Department officers haven’t developed a Mad Libs-like, fill-in-the-blank police report for drunken assaults in downtown Fremont.

According to the police report, a man and his friend were leaving the Ballroom at closing time June 18 when the friend got into an argument with a stranger leaving the bar.

A fight ensued, and when the man tried to pull the stranger off his friend, he was punched in the side of the face by an unknown assailant and knocked unconscious, according to the report.

The man was transported to the hospital following the attack.

The assault was not reported at the time because officers didn’t know the man had been attacked. They were busy breaking up the fight and dealing with a large number of people, according to the report.

The man decided to report the assault three days later, worried his hospital bill might prove expensive.

A short postscript to this police report: The officer who wrote the report used the phrase, “The subject was contacted telephonically,” which is the greatest way to describe calling someone on the phone I have ever heard.
